Effective: November 2025
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Land Use Portal (“the Portal”).
The Portal is operated and maintained by Groundtruth Limited (“Groundtruth”).
Regional partners, including Te Puna Umanga Venture Taranaki (“Venture Taranaki”), may access identifiable user information for regional analysis and engagement.
By using the Portal—whether as a public visitor or a registered user—you agree to these Terms.
The Land Use Portal provides indicative crop-modelling, mapping, and scenario outputs to help landowners and growers explore potential land-use and crop opportunities.
Groundtruth owns and manages the Portal, including all datasets, infrastructure, and hosting environments.
Regional partners such as Venture Taranaki access identifiable information solely for regional development purposes, including crop-related follow-ups and analysis.
The Portal uses data sourced from multiple providers, including (but not limited to) the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) crop suitability assessment programme, the Whitiwhiti Ora: Land Use Opportunities Data Supermarket, and datasets developed during Phase 2 of the Branching Out project, alongside information from a range of other providers. Users should refer to the original source material for methodology, assumptions, limitations, and dataset updates.
The Portal is designed to give landowners and growers a high-level, indicative overview of potential crop opportunities. All model outputs, calculations, maps, and scenario results are estimates only and may not reflect actual on-farm conditions or outcomes.
Users should treat all information as guidance, not as financial, agronomic, technical, or professional advice. Users must undertake their own due diligence and seek expert advice before making decisions based on the information presented.
Groundtruth and Venture Taranaki accept no liability for any loss, damage, or action resulting from reliance on the Portal or its outputs.
Public users may explore parts of the Portal without creating an account.
By continuing to use the Portal in this mode, you acknowledge the limitations described in Section 2.
No identifiable personal information is collected until the user registers for an account.
Some features—such as saving scenarios, running personalised analyses, or receiving follow-up support—require an account.
By registering, you confirm that:
Your use of the Portal as a registered user is subject to the Privacy Statement – Venture Taranaki or the relevant regional privacy statement for your area.
Groundtruth collects identifiable personal information during registration, including your name, contact details, land or property information, and any saved crop scenarios.
Groundtruth may share identifiable personal information with the regional partner you select (such as Venture Taranaki) for the following purposes:
Your identifiable information will not be sold, publicly disclosed, or shared beyond these purposes except where required by law.
Full details are outlined in the applicable regional Privacy Statement.
Signing up for a Portal account does not subscribe you to newsletters or marketing updates.
You may still be contacted by the regional partner for the primary purpose of the Portal (e.g., crop opportunities, follow-up, or regional support). This primary-purpose contact is independent of any optional newsletter subscription.
If you choose to “Join the Community/Join Others” and subscribe to updates:
You agree to:
Groundtruth may suspend or terminate access if misuse or unauthorised behaviour is detected.
All platform design, datasets, models, software, and associated systems are owned by Groundtruth Limited, unless otherwise stated.
Insights, reports, or derivative works created by regional partners using the Portal remain the property of the respective regional partner.
You may not reproduce, distribute, or commercialise any part of the Portal without permission.
Groundtruth aims to ensure reliable access to the Portal but does not guarantee continuous availability, uninterrupted operation, or error-free performance.
Groundtruth may change, update, or suspend the Portal or these Terms at any time.
Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
These Terms do not limit any rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 where applicable.
